Growing Popularity of Rustic Lighting Fixtures

Portraying the spirit of the Wild West, rustic Western lighting fixtures come adorned with actual deer antlers and pinecones or artistic renditions of trout, elk, and buffalo, among other wildlife.

The sportsman or woman can find lamps decorated with snowshoes, bows and arrows, a fishing reel, and boat paddles. These lamps can enhance the décor of a farmhouse, country cabin, or cottage in the mountains. Stepping back to frontier days, wagon wheel chandeliers and tin-punched lighting offer unique turn-of-the-century décor. To get you started on furnishing your home with Western lighting décor, here are some fixture options you might consider.

Bear Lamps and Chandeliers

Bear lamps, sconces, and chandeliers typically capture a bear scene. Bears and cubs ambling on all fours, walking upright among the pine trees, climbing trees, or catching fish are some examples. These scenes capturing the spirit of the bear might be three dimensional or flat. They might decorate the lamp shade or the base or both. You’ll find them in both wood and metal. Artistic metal fixtures often have soft rust finishes and shades in amber mica. Some shades are made of faux leather.

Wagon Wheel Chandeliers

Depending on the material, a wagon wheel chandelier may be authentic or a reproduction. An authentic wagon wheel chandelier is made from a real antique wagon wheel, while a reproduction is usually made from medium density polyethylene, a durable, lightweight material. Reproductions should come with all the necessary features: a chain, globe or hurricane lights, and a light fixture. While both are attractive, an authentic wagon wheel chandelier will certainly cost more than a reproduction. It could cost as much as four times more. However, an authentic fixture is a great conversation piece and gives you a true haunt from the past.

Antler Lighting Fixtures

As with the wagon wheel chandelier, you can buy an authentic antler light fixture or a reproduction. You can be assured that absolutely no harm is done to a deer or elk in the making of an antler lamp or chandelier. Antlers are collected on trails where annual antler shedding occurs. An authentic antler fixture will cost considerably more than a reproduction.
